What is the Dream on Seniors Wish Foundation?
The Dream On Seniors Wish Foundation is a private charitable organization founded by Nurse Next Door Home Care Services that aims to celebrate aging and make the dreams of seniors come true.
The Foundation honours our golden generation by promoting a culture of respect and admiration and encourages seniors to never stop dreaming, and it’s about asking the right questions. The Dream On Foundation will show life certainly doesn’t stop at 65 — in fact, it’s just getting started.
How did the Dream On Seniors’ Wish Foundation begin?
Five years ago, a case manager from the Vancouver General Hospital called Nurse Next Door in search of a miracle. They had a palliative client who had just one remaining wish as his health was deteriorating; to see his son in Calgary whom he had not spoken to in 43 years. Nurse Next Door fulfilled this man’s wish and the company realized people have dreams and wishes but aren’t asked about them enough.
Wishes don’t have to be about dying but should also be about celebrating life and aging, everyday.
What is the purpose of the foundation?
Making seniors dreams come true
Inspiring seniors to dream

What type of dreams will be granted?
Dreams will come in all shapes and sizes. Someone may want computer lessons to keep in touch with their family. Another may want to attend a special event such as a play, concert or sports game. Who wouldn’t want an opportunity to meet their life-long hero? Or learn to dance, sing or play an instrument? Imagine an elderly person who dreams of traveling to their birthplace or to reunite with loved ones?
How are dreams selected to be granted?
The foundation committee will select the dream(s) to grant.
We are always looking for dream submissions and hope to help as many seniors as we can.
What dream’s have been granted so far?
The first dream was granted on May 8, 2013. The Dream On foundation sent a 92 year old woman named Eleanor along with her caregiver to Halifax, Nova Scotia, from London, Ontario. Eleanor’s dream was to visit her last remaining sibling in her hometown while traveling by train because her late husband worked for Via Rail.
The foundation has also helped a man who dreamed of turning his old radio interviews from the 60’s of famous jazz singers into shareable format with a new laptop and technology lessons.
How is the Foundation funded?
Nurse Next Door will be the largest supporter of the foundation that will fund the majority of dreams granted.
Community partners will be approached to assist where required.
